Making the backyard beautiful again...

So I don't have any before pictures of these spaces but picture them empty with tree stumps. We had several trees cut down last summer in the two corners of our backyard. The trees were sick and didn't really do much for the yard so we got rid of them with the intent of building up the areas and planting some flowers. Unfortunately we were in a car accident last May and so getting down on our hands and knees and planting a flower garden just wasn't in the cards for us...so we left it as is with just tree stumps and then a bunch of weeds started growing. It was quite the site - luckily it was in our back yard and so we just didn't invite people back there.

I was so anxious as soon as the weather started to get nice this year to get back there and start the process of making it beautiful again. I knew it would be a lot of work but didn't really realize how much work until we started. Because we left the stumps there, we had to really do a build up with lots of dirt in order for planting to even be possible. Each area took 100, 40lb bags of dirt. We spent a lot of time picking out flowers/plants that would bloom from Spring to Fall and that would be colorful. Of course each side had to have different plants too because one side was in the shade and the other was in the sun.

It doesn't look like much but this kept us very busy for many nights and we are happy with the results.
